January 21, 2008 AMERICA’S PREMIERE COLLEGE MEDIA SOURCE LAUNCHES INTO A NEW YEAR A New Year Brings New Writers, New Editors and New Words The Campus Word (TCW) is beginning 2008 with a brand new team of editors, writers and content at www.thecampusword.com. TCW is a multi-media web site that provides a platform for college journalists and students to freely voice their opinions about the world, politics, sports, fashion, campus cultures, sex and more. The staff will now include over 100 writers hailing from 65 different schools led by a top team of editors. TCW Co-Founder Chase Garbarino made the announcement this month saying, “This is a great day for those involved in college media, for now more of their content will be read by more eyes and on more campuses across the country.” 2007 saw the site grow to reach the eyes of students at over 200 colleges and universities according to internal numbers. Eric Kuhn, the Editor-in-Chief of TCW said, “We are really excited to continue working to build an Internet community for college students to share information and start discussions about what is important to them. I know that our new team is made up of the best out there and their articles and ideas will quickly create conversations in college dinning halls across America.” The new section editors include: Stephanie Chao is a junior at the College of William and Mary, originally from Sterling, VA. Previous experience as copy editor at www.hipsterbookclub.com. Jessie DaSilva is a third-year journalism and Political Science major at the University of Florida and originally from Long Island, NY, but raised in Southern Florida. She has worked at the independent student-run newspaper, the Independent Florida Alligator and this semester is interning at Roll Call and taking 12 credits at Georgetown University. Nicole Gervasio attends Bryn Mawr College and is a sophomore English and urban studies double major. Originally from Trenton, NJ, she has been working on school newspapers since middle school, and currently serves as opinions-editorials editor of and weekly writer for the Bi-College News for Bryn Mawr and Haverford Colleges. She is an editor on the Nimbus and Kaleidoscope literary magazines at Bryn Mawr. Lauren Indvik is currently a junior at Dartmouth and has worked for The Dartmouth Review, The Stonefence Review, and Vogue. Andrew Klein recently graduated from the University of Michigan where he was the Entertainment Editor for three years for The Michagan Daily, one of the country’s largest college publications. Jamie Leader is a junior at Georgetown University where he writes a sports column for The Hoya. Originally from Houston, Jamie has been writing about college sports for The Hoya for over a year. Alex Locke is a sophomore at Bowdoin College majoring in Government, focusing on middle Eastern Studies. Alex has worked for The Bowdoin Orient and Students for Barack Obama. Dan Moore is an English major at Missouri University and originally from Springfield, Illinois. He has written the movie column for the Mizzou Maneater for the past year. Andrew Nesi is from Fairfield, Conn. and is a junior American Studies major at the University of Notre Dame. He writes a biweekly column for The Observer, Notre Dame's student newspaper. In addition, he has served as an intern and a consultant for the CBS Evening News with Katie Couric. Katie Papo is from Syracuse University where she is a Magazine Journalism major. She is originally from New City, New York. Katie is on staff for school newspaper, The Daily Orange, Health Editor for Equal Time Magazine (General interest magazine at Syracuse University), a blogger for “What the Health” website which is the online version of What the Health magazine at SU and a writer for the “Healthy Monday” website. Kayleigh Roberts is studying at Northwestern University and is originally from Louisville, KY. Her journalism experience includes being the EIC of her high school newspaper, Asst. Entertainment Editor of www.NorthbyNorthwestern.com, a Beat Reporter The Daily Northwestern, and an intern at 1570 The Zone Radio (ESPN Radio Louisville Affiliate) Jyll Saskin is a native of Toronto, Canada. She is a junior at Tufts University with a double major in Psychology and Child Development and a minor in Communications and Media Studies, though she is currently studying abroad in Florence, Italy. She was the Executive Copy Editor at the Tufts Daily last semester and interned in the beauty department at FLARE Magazine last summer. In addition to TCW, her work has been published in FLARE, the Tufts Daily, the Tufts Observer, and the Spectrum, her high school newspaper. Michael Wilkerson is a native of Denver, Colorado and is currently a junior at Stanford University studying Poli-Sci. TCW'S POLITICS EDITOR LEAVES FOR FORBES.COM The Campus Word (TCW)'s own Tony Romm is leaving his position asPolitics Editor for www.thecampusword.comfor an internship at Forbes.com. He willbe working at the Washington bureau and doing a lot of research andfact-checking at first, but, TCW Co-Founder Chase Garbarino says, "we expecthim to have a few bylined stories by the end of the semester!" TCW Co-founder and Kevin McCarthy wished him farewell saying, "Tony has been a vital part inTCW's growth and we look forward to see him accomplish great things in hiscareer as a journalist. We are proud heis leaving us with a solid foundation." Originally from Levittown, PA, Romm is a sophomore at AmericanUniversity studying journalism and international politics.

TCW POLITICS WRTIER PUBLISHES ARTICLE FOR TheNation.Com The Campus Word (TCW)'s own Alyssa Battistoni publishedan article today on TheNation.com titled "The Reality of Poverty." The attached essay was one of fivefinalists out of 600 entries in The Nation's annual student essay contest. Alyssa is a regularcontributor to the Politics section atwww.thecampusword.com.
